Sporting Events That Changed America

This virtual program, based on Martin Gitlin’s highly acclaimed book, Powerful Moments in Sports: The Most Significant Sporting Events in American History, features exciting videos of essential sporting events through more than 100 years. Included are the sale of Babe Ruth to the Yankees, Jesse Owens at the 1936 Berlin Olympics, the 1958 NFL Championship Game, the famed Battle of the Sexes tennis match between Billie Jean King and Bobby Riggs, the Magic Johnson-Larry Bird rivalry, and much more. Patrons will have the chance to ask questions and participate in a trivia contest.

The IndiCycle van will be in the upper parking lot of the Central Library on Saturday, June 11 from 9am - noon for an electronic recycling event. Items accepted for free disposal include: computers, routers, monitors, TVs, laptops, mice, keyboards, cameras, printers, toner, wires/cables, batteries (no single use), microwaves; cell, cordless, and landline phones; stereo equipment, plastic speakers, CD/DVD players, gaming stations, and other electronic gadgetry.
A $10 disposal fee is charged for: wooden speakers, laserjet printers, air conditioners, dehumidifiers, mini fridges, and other coolant containing appliances.
The following items are not accepted: lightbulbs, glass, broken TV tubes, smoke detectors, single use batteries, furniture, paint, plastic, paper/styrofoam, and chemicals/aerosol cans.
