Ed Garcia, Director of Cranston Public Library, Honored with Rhode Island Center for the Book Page Turner Award

Rhode Island Center for the Book is proud to announce that Ed Garcia, Director of the Cranston Public Library, has been named the recipient of this year’s Page Turner Award. Established in 2023, the Page Turner Award recognizes a librarian or educator who has made a significant contribution to the Center’s mission and inspired a love of reading throughout Rhode Island.

“Ed was the only person we considered for this year’s award,” said Kate Lentz, Director of the Rhode Island Center for the Book. “His leadership and unwavering commitment to the Freedom to Read have been truly exceptional.”

“I am deeply honored to receive the Page Turner Award and to have my work recognized by the Rhode Island Center for the Book,” said Ed Garcia, Director of the Cranston Public Library. “Libraries are the pillars of our democracy, places where everyone can freely explore ideas and stories that shape who we are. I share this recognition with all my colleagues who work every day to protect the freedom to read and foster a love of books in our community.”

The Page Turner Award will be presented on October 22nd at the Back to School Book Bash, at Ochre Court in Newport, RI. 

Rhode Island Center for the Book lives and breathes the mission of providing books and learning opportunities for schools, libraries, and other organizations throughout the state. The Center promotes an equitable and just world through reading and education, actively supporting local communities by partnering with Rhode Island’s independent bookstores.
