Notary Services
Notary services are offered at the Cranston Central Library (limit of five (5) stamps per patron) for a $5.00 requested donation.
The following documents/situations cannot be notarized by the Cranston Public Library notaries:
- Mortgages
- Documents requiring additional witnesses
A notary is generally available Monday – Friday, 9:00 am – 3:30 pm. Please call to confirm a notary is available at 401-943-9080 x100. You may check in at the Circulation desk when you arrive to be directed to the notary. The notaries public on staff are not qualified attorneys and are strictly prohibited from giving legal advice.

Frequently Asked Questions
What/who do I need to bring?
- The completed but unsigned document being notarized
- All document signers
- All necessary witnesses
- A valid form of identification that matches the name(s) on the document
Can someone at the library serve as a witness?
No, documents requiring additional witnesses can not be done by the Cranston Public Library notaries.
One of the document signers can’t make it. Can I have them sign the document and then bring it to you for notarization?
No. All document signers must be present, and the form must be signed in front of the notary.
Can I get a notarized copy of a birth, marriage, or death certificate?
No. Vital records that are available from your local City Clerk or Records Office cannot be copy certified by any notary. They must be requested from the City Clerk.
Is there a fee?
No, there is not a fee, but a $5.00 donation is requested.
