Cranston, RI - The Cranston Public Library is proud to announce that Library Director Ed Garcia has been named the recipient of the Rhode Island Library Association (RILA) Outstanding Librarian Award. This award honors the career accomplishments of a librarian who has demonstrated an outstanding record of service to both their library and to the library profession, within the past year.
Nomination letters noted Ed’s national involvement with the American Library Association, his legislative work in Rhode Island, his work over the past year as President of Ocean State Libraries, his dedicated leadership at the Cranston Public Library, and his mentorship of new librarians.
Ed’s leadership was noted as being instrumental in the passage of the Rhode Island Freedom to Read Act - the most comprehensive Freedom to Read law in the country.
The Rhode Island Library Association presented its annual awards at the RILA Annual Conference, held on May 20, at The University of Rhode Island.
